Covid-19 has been the catalyst for change. Our home environments have taken on a different role. The need for our home has expended to cater for family and work life, and as a place for refuge.

The role of designers will play a crucial part during this shift in our home environment, and its need to have a flexible use. Working with colours, types of furnishings, and textiles.

Our life has changed, we have all been living in our environments and adapting to the change over the last year or so. Where are we at physically, emotionally and psychologically? What our needs will be, and what the design industry has forecasted in order to adapt.

There’s a very uplifting view to the future with emphasis on cleaning up our act and resetting the environment, and having awareness of the impact we make as designers. A time to reconnect with nature and reset a natural order that has been disrupted. We will live, design and manufacture in a new way. This really fits with my values.

Post pandemic life is a good opportunity to make change and start afresh. We can keep the beneficial qualities of the pandemic lifestyle, how it was prior to that was not sustainable. We can find comfort in the changes we make, establish control, escapism and self determination.

Let's discuss three key trends for 2022 - Solace, Togetherness and Reset from the Decor + Design Show, Melbourne 2021.
