STUDENT WORK
Employed by our client, The City of Sydney, the re-design of Barrack Street pedestrian zone and 345 George Street interior was an exercise in looking at the nature of space, the importance of art and architectural history, and taking a broader approach to design. Here we looked beyond the built space with an overall conceptual view, using scale and impact to convey feeling.
Reference to Roman Architecture with its simple form conveyed the overarching aesthetic. The brief focussed on sustainable materiality, increasing green space and community connection in keeping within the City of Sydney's Environmental Plan for 2030.
Sydney sandstone, granite paving, forged metal, and Biowood are some sustainable materials used.
Here we identified the cultural, social, historical and environmental considerations within a design context. Identified appropriate design criteria, researched specific functions within spatial environments, while exploring their evolution, cultural influences, and historical context.
An interior design solution was proposed as a response to a brief incorporating environmentally responsible materials and technologies.
